Is the Bloomington Petroglyph Park Worth Visiting?

Over the years, I’ve heard about a little park located in the middle of a residential neighborhood called the Bloomington Petroglyph Park. Knowing that this park was in a very accessible location, I always wondered how persevered could the Native American Rock actually be. If there is one thing I have noticed, while traveling all over the state, those more accessible areas seem to be more prone to vandalism. This park is probably one of the most accessible locations, to see and view some of Utah’s ancient rock carvings.

Rock Art in the Park:

Located within this 1/2-acre park are several large boulders covered in Petroglyphs. Some of the rock art has faded away from exposure to the elements, while other carvings stand out, as if they were carved recently. Many of the carvings appear to be those of human and animal forms, and the many other squiggly lines and round circles, may represent early trail maps. As you walk around the boulders, take the time to look high and low. I think you will be surprised at just how many cravings there are on these few boulders. As with any location containing ancient rock art, please only take pictures and do not touch the art. Also, I recommend not climbing on the boulders, as you may find yourself standing on a Petroglyph.

Is the Bloomington Petroglyph Park Worth the Visit?

If you're traveling to or through St. George for a family vacation, and have a little time to visit this little park, then yes, it is worth the visit. A visit to the park will take less than 1/2 hour, so this would be a great roadside stop, to stretch your legs, and to view this unique location.

If you plan to visit the park, please note there is very little parking. Also, remember you are in the middle of a neighborhood, so please respect the community. The park closes at 6pm.
